During the restoration of the Great Yarmouth Waterways volunteers and trainees have been crucial to the development of the site. Recruited to work alongside professionals to faithfully reinstate the original and beautiful themed flower beds, and repair the rusticated thatched shelters that contribute much to the special character of the attraction.
Volunteers also played an active role in the painstaking restoration of the original boat figureheads from the 1950s. The work undertaken was of a real delicate nature due to the condition and age of the wood. The figureheads have been placed in the garden for all to enjoy.
Volunteers are equally important now to maintain the gardens throughout the Waterways and Great Yarmouth Green Gym have very kindly taken over the management of this, and will be onsite once a month.
